Turkeys Have Been Ordered
Good morning to everyone. Well the turkeys have been ordered they won't be available until May 7th. I ordered a straite run which means a mix of male and female. The females are suppose to get up to 25lbs and the males anywhere from 30lbs to 40lbs, and I ordered 15. This should fill one freezer and take the place of the pigs we had last year(that is another story ) I try not to buy much meat at the store. Last year I filled two freezers, one with 1/2 a cow which we got from a local farmer and the other with the two pigs we raised. Not only do I know what I'm feeding my family but its a wonderful feeling to not depend on someone else for your food supply. So 15 turkeys are on there way.Silkie waiting for babies to hatch |
The chicks have not yet hatched. When I've incubated in the past if I remember right it takes 21 days to hatch, but the hens all started setting at different times and they've moved the eggs around so I've lost track of the days. One day I'll just get up and find baby chicks running around, can't wait.

If your thinking about getting a few farm animals chickens are a good place to start. I have the bunnies, I've had pigs, turkeys are next. Someday maybe goats but my husband says NO! when I'm ready we'll see.(smile)
