                               Eating Local

Good morning everyone its a chilly day in Northern Maine, even thinking about starting a little fire.

I've stumbled across an article about a couple who took on the challenge of only eating local for one year. The article says if every person in the country ate one local meal a week, it would save1.1 million barrels of oil a week.  Plus you've got security of your food supply and your supporting your local economy.

I've decided to take on the challenge. EAT LOCAL FOR ONE YEAR.

I will start July 1st on my birthday. My husband is going to be my biggest struggle he told me we had to have a years worth of A-1 steak sauce before July 1st(grin) I will be canning all my vegetables,Freezing and canning fruits. 1/2 cow will go in the freezer this fall and 13 turkeys. These are all things I normally do any way.

We have a local dairy that has milk, butter, lemonade and ice tea. These things I will be able to buy. I figure on the days I don't make bread I can buy from the local bakery.  These are a few of the things I've been thinking about.

I am allowing myself 5 exceptions a month plus salt. I will need these for white sugar, Chocolate chips and other things for baking.

I'm real excited about this, and kinda wishing a few more will join me.

So I hope starting July 1st you will follow me on my journey of "Eating Local For One Year" I'm sure there will be lots of struggles along the way.

Well that's all for today. Hope you all have a wonderful afternoon.

                             Hugs

  1. I'm with you! I'm sure there will be struggles, also, but just think of all the kinks we'll work out this year, in order to continue this next year!
